David,

How you doing? Its been a long time! ;o)
Things are going good here for me and Caleigh, she is doing great, gettin
ready for another hunting season coming up soon. All of my hunting buddies,
and more than I have now, were so surprised about how well she is doing. She was in full retrieve last fall, AT ONLY 5 Months old!!!  They were amazed, even did boat retrieves, so I was very happy with the progress she made. Shes getting  bigger, about up to 68# now, how big did her parents end up, shes about 16 months old now.

Great talking to you, drop me a line whne you get some free time!
Later David,

Hi David,
Just wanted to let you know that all is well with young Yogi. He is doing
great in his new environment...and is a VERY quick learner. He has already
mastered "sit", "down", "come", "go to bed", and the ever important "get
busy"! He has also drawn praise from all who have met him..."he is so
smart", "his color is perfect", "look how big his paws are"...etc. So, we
just wanted to thank you again for all the help and providing us with such a
fine dog.

As a side note...we did not get his AKC papers from you when we left your
place. Can you mail those out to me so that I can get him registered?
Also, I have started a web page dedicated to Yogi, although I have not yet
scanned all the pictures we have of him. I will send you the URL when I get
the pics up!!
thanks,
Brian & Demetra Hufford

And another email from Brian - his puppy has his own website!

thanks for sending the AKC papers! I have created a mini-website for Yogi at
the following URL...

There are plenty of pictures of him if you are interested in checking them
out. Just click on "View the Photo Gallery"....

David I named the puppy Jake. He's great! A real people dog. He's  such a goof and I mean that in a real positive way.Jake is completely house  trained and very smart. He follows me everywhere. I can take him anywhere  without a leash and he will stay with me Very playfull but also gentle. He loves  to retrieve, he'll go for hours. Jake is everything that I had hoped he would be and more. He  is a beautiful dog and strangers compliment him everywhere we go. I will e-mail you some pictures when I get a digital  camera. Ê

Hi David!Ê We can't thank you enough for bringing this little female puppy into our lives.Ê We decided to call her "Marley."Ê We were thinking that her AKC name might be something like Marley Ann Stargate.Ê Are there any guidelines or recommendations for naming?Ê

So far she has discovered her shadow (scared her at first), managed to climb up/down about two steps, awakened us every few hours in the night to go pee, fairly consistently found the puppy pad to pee, chewed the rug enough we put it in the closet, and won our hearts.Ê She is absolutely the greatest!Ê We take her for her well-puppy appointment at the vet later this week and to get a health certificate for the plane flight.Ê We'll keep you posted!Ê

Best wishes,

Lisa, Slate & Marley

Thought I'd just echo Lisa's remarks about Marley- she is truly amazing, and oh so beautiful. Who would of thought that sleep deprivation would be so enjoyable.

Anyhow, I've enclosed some photos from that fateful day. Enjoy.

Dave-
Just wanted you to know that we are so happy with Maggie.  She basically
toilet trained in 4 days (with the help of the crate!), she has learned some
basic commands like sit and down, she doesnt jump up, hardly chews at all,
and the only problem we had was when she was left in a dark room at night
without the girls (she usually sleeps in a crate in the girls' room.

We are so happy with her!

David & Jim,
Our puppy flew in Sunday.  Of course the flight was behind schedule so we waited for an hour at the cargo dock to get her.  Boy were we ancy.  She was so exited to see someone.  She is beautiful!  We just cant get over all the extra skin, wrinkles and droopy ears.  David, thank you so much for helping make such an informed decision allowing me find just the right puppy.  I am so grateful for all of your detailed responses to my relentless emails.  Maybe now you can get some work done.
Thanks to both of you!

Subject: Update #2 (Henna X Jake male pup)

Hi, David.  I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on our
Chocolate boy, Kona Da Kine.  He celebrated his first birthday this past
Mother's Day and was quite patient with the party hat I made him wear
for photos (I'll send you a copy).  He is a fabulous dog and we are very
happy with him.  He weighed in last week at a sturdy 98 lbs. and stands
5' tall on his back legs, but still thinks he's a lap dog.  The only
problem we have encountered is with allergies that he has developed.  We
are on round two of medicating and are hoping to get a handle on it
soon.

He has successfully completed three levels of "manners" training and
he's starting to grow out of his goofiness and short attention span.  He
is quite skilled at catching his soft Frisbee in mid-air, but would
prefer to shake it to death rather than release it for another go.  He
loves a good game of chase or tug-o-war, and having his kitten chew on
his jowels (always fun to watch).  He continues to amaze us with his
verbal comprehension and can discern between the tennis ball, the blue
ball and the squeaky ball when asked to go get a particular one.

Again, David, thank you for breeding such beautiful, intelligent, loving
Labradors.  When the time is right to expand our "family" we will
definitely be in contact.

David,

Ulysses is doing great!  Don't know when Terry talked to you last.  We
continued to have a problem with Uly's leg.  He would favor it and wake up
extremely stiff.  He ran like a rabbit.  We took him to three specialists
who x-rayed and could not find anything wrong.  They recommended a vet in
Sac who was an Orthopedic specialist.  They sent the x-rays to him in
preparation for our visit.   When the vet examined the x-rays he identified
the problem immediately.  He called us and said that he needed to see Uly
because he had a broken bone--which surprised all the other vets. Evidently,
when he was a pup, he "blew out" a small bone that tendons attach to.  Very
hard to see on an x-ray if you have not seen the injury before. The bone
shards were penetrating the muscle causing pain.  This same injury is common
on sheep dogs who make fast cuts or changes in direction at speed.  The turn
places too much pressure on the bone and it bursts.   Uly had surgery three
weeks ago.  The tendons were cut and the fragments were removed--after which the tendons were re-attached.  The vet told us he would be back in shape in a couple of months.  The recovery has been extraordinary.  We have had to hold him back.  He feels great and his gait has improved tremendously.  What a great family member he is.  We will send you a picture soon.  We have
intentionally kept his weight down.  He presently weighs 80 lbs. and looks
great.  He is obedient, intelligent, and loving.  He draws attention every
where we go!  So many people have asked us where we got Ulysses that we
considered shaving your web address into his side like a walking bill board
so we can just point to it :)  Thanks for a superb animal and thank you for
caring so much about the health and well being of every dog you sale.

Sincerely

Mark

Hi,

Our son picked up the female runt of the litter between, Roads Bud & Star Daze on 10/30/97. You don't show the dame Star Daze anywhere. Do you have information on her since Winnie is expecting her first litter in 3 weeks. Winnie has been more than anyone could expect. She is beautiful, the best hunter of the whole group of dogs that hunt with my son and a wonderful family pet as well. She is also very protective. Our family has always chosen the runt of the litter and this goes back to my wife's father. Never had a bad one. Winnie showed so much personality at 10 weeks that our son couldn't resist her.

Thank you for your time.......Michael Smith

David, Ê Thanks so much for the wonderful pup. We've named her Abby  (Abigail). She's great!! -- smart,Êeager to please, very willing to learn some  basics. The wood shavings really did the trick for toilet training. She's  adapted so well to her new home and family, and we (and our neighbors) really  love her. (The neighbors especially like that she doesn't yap or whine.) We've  given her access to most of the yard and she has spent the past week exploring  every inch. Even our cat has shown interest in Abby. Our vet gave her the thumbs  up, and complimented your breeding. Ê Can you help out with a name for the registration? I'm not sure how one  goes about including the dog parents' names. Any suggestions you have would be  greatly appreciated. I don't want to embarrass her lineage with a misguided  name! Ê Again, many thanks! Pam

Hi David, just wanted to let you know Annie is a wonderful little puppy.
She has doubled in size and is smart as a whip.  She already knows where the
designated area is to go potty (I have a 4 x 4 rock area that my big lab
uses).  We do the GOOD GIRL thing and she seems so pleased with herself.
She and Chip are devoted to each other.  She loves her house (small dog
carrier) and goes in there when she is tired of playing.  sometimes won't
come out.  She has a pan of toys and she drags them all into her house.
Huge appetite.  Inspects every inch of the back yard when we go out there in
the evening.  Never did cry at night, and is starting to bark.  She is so
much fun!

My neighbor wants a male that is not related to Annie, so let me know
(husband material).

Also, we go to the vet this Saturday, and I want to be sure Annie has only
had puppy shots, not the DHLPP and CV, right?

thanks!

David, We have the most wonderful dog in the world.  You knew her as litter number SN756291/02, born July 19 from JJ Star Gator and Gabriels Star, but we just call her Sofi.  She is almost five months old.  I got a trainer before we brought her home from your place, and he helped me set up the house for her to succeed.  She has a doggie door, plants outside wrapped with fencing to prevent digging, and an inside gated (flexible configuration) inside which includes the doggie door.  She slept in a kennel in my room from the beginning.  It was way to big for her, but she has grown into it.  She weighed about nine pounds when we brought her home and at last visit to the vet she is 43 lbs.  She trained herself within a few days.  About six weeks ago as her energy has increased so much, I  began to take her to doggie day care (only in California, my friend in Oklahoma keeps asking me what in the heck that is!).  She goes three days a week.  The owners are fabulous.  She runs most of the day with about two doxen other dogs.  It is about 5,000 square feet indoors and outside.  The dogs are never without supervision and they use no cages.  They also take them for walks twice a day.  Now she is pretty good with sit, down and stay.  I fought with my husband for a year before getting Sofi and you guessed it, now he adores her.  We'll be back in a year or two looking for another one of your wonderful pups.  Thanks, Mary Lackides <<003.JPG>>  <<008.JPG>>

P.S.  I think my husband has taken at least 500 photos of Sofi.
