Stargate Kennels
Chocolate Labrador Retrievers, Lab Puppies for Sale

Updated 5/9/08
We have a cancellation of a deposit, dame is Sadie, sired by Bo . Born March 28th delivery about 17-22 May depending on your location. Nationwide delivery is available if purchased by May 14th. We call him Winston. Here he is at age 6 weeks:

He's a BIG puppy, 15lbs. at 6 weeks. We expect he'll be tall, very solid and stocky with a block head. Quite playful and active, but he has mellow moments too. Shows good curiosity, nosey and loves to explore. He'll be a good companion for kids of all ages and I think he could easily be a good hunter/retriever/working dog as well.

Next puppies hopefully available late August/early September. We are hoping for litters from Truffles, Sunday, Krystal and new girl Roxy (no pics yet, coming soon) with puppies ready late summer or fall. Sired by Bo, Deke or possibly our newest boy Ace (no pics yet, coming soon).

We love to hear how our puppies are doing. Here's one of our recent emails.
Check out more on our Owners Feedback Pages, meet some of our puppies
and talk wit their owners. Some examples below.

Hello Kitty!

Yes we DO deliver all of our puppies! I've had so many doubters recently, thought
I'd publish this picture we received from Peggy Kempton in Harvard MA. Yes, this
how we travel. My wife and I in the front and the whole back a custom puppy pen.

Check Lighthouse Labradors or Pheasants Run Kennels for puppy availablity.

I accept 8 deposits, 4 males, 4 females until puppies are born and I have an actual count. It is not unusual for all 8 deposits to be taken by the time they are born. If you want a puppy, you should first email or call me 530-321-2199 to make sure it is still available and then send your deposit via PayPal. Full info is found on the RESERVE A PUPPY page

Read Stargate Kennels History to see where we started and why we do what we do here. Have a look at my new Puppy Care menu! (Scroll to bottom of any page to access) Good tips on puppy feeding, housebreaking, crate training, exercise, veterinarian selection, pet insurance, puppy proofing(including poisons and hazards to avoid), and what to have on hand when you bring your puppy home for the first time. See what some current owners have to say about their puppies. (Sorry for the big pages!) For folks who have some of our chocolate labs and want to research old photos, or for anyone who likes puppy pictures I have started kind of a Stargate Kennels chocolate labrador retriever archive section, nothing fancy, just lots of puppy pictures. Some better than others, reflecting my slow improvement as a puppy photographer, I guess.

Black, Brown or Yellow? One of the best explainations of color genetics in labs that I have seen can be found here http://users.tpg.com.au/choclab/cci/cci.htm

. .from the AKC website . . . "The beloved Labrador Retriever is playful, loving to people and hardworking. The Lab can be counted on as a true friend anytime, anyplace, and is highly respected for his prowess at many jobs: as a guide dog for the disabled, a search-and-rescue dog, and for narcotics detection. The Labrador is a member of the Sporting Group and was first recognized by the AKC in 1917."

. .again from the AKC website . . . "Did you know? The Labrador Retriever did not come from Labrador, but from Newfoundland . . . The Labrador Retriever is one of the prime breeds selected as guide and rescue dogs. The Labrador Retriever is gentle with children and the elderly . . . keep in mind that Labrador puppies are full of energy . . . The Labrador Retriever is not an aggressive dog, but it will bark to ward off strangers."

We breed a wonderful line of chocolate labrador retrievers, providing chocolate lab puppies mainly for family pets, selecting our breeding stock for gentle disposition, intelligence, size (large) and color (dark).  The extended pedigrees of our chocolate labs are also replete with field trial champions and excellent field chocolate and black and yellow labrador retrievers, skilled and proven hunters.  On the occasions when we have provided retrievers for hunting, the results have been outstanding, with our lab puppies performing extremely well, many times with absolutely no formal training. Be sure to visit our new chocolate labrador retriever puppy owners pages, and read their comments on their new lab puppies.  In the US and Canada we offer personal delivery to your door, and for worldwide delivery we recommend Jim O'Brien at Obriens Animal Transportation, who has safely and carefully delivered puppies for us as far away as Saudi Arabia and Taiwan.
